As a big fan of Hyatt hotels, I was elated to find out that there are 2 Hyatt branded hotels in Montreal, Canada. There’s the Hyatt Place and then the Hyatt Centric. I was drawn to book a 4 night stay at the Hyatt Centric Montreal as it looked quite nice online and had a solid points per night rate. My weekend in Montreal was my first time in Canada and the Hyatt Centric played a big part in making it a memorable experience.

What was the cost?

While I was looking for a hotel in Montreal, I was hoping to use points when booking so I didn’t have to shell out cash. I still was looking for good CPP value, of course. I was looking to book a stay from Jan 16th-20th. When I looked on Hyatt Centric Montreal’s website, I saw that the cash price was $185 Canadian dollars per night (approx. $134 USD) and the point price was 9,000 points a night. This equates to about 1.45 CPP in value if I were to use my points.

1.45 CPP for a Hyatt hotel is not the best points redemption value but it’s also not the worst. Since I knew I was still getting good value for my points, I decided to go ahead and book with points. I transferred 36,000 Chase points from my Chase account using my Chase Sapphire Reserve® to my Hyatt account. The transfer came into my Hyatt account almost instantaneously and I booked the hotel soon afterwards.

An important note is that the Hyatt Centric Montreal is a Category 3 Hyatt which means you can use Category 1-4 free night certificates on this booking.

Another reason I love staying in Hyatts is that I often get my friend’s Hyatt Globalist benefits when I travel with him. With his Globalist perks, I enjoy late checkout (4 pm latest guaranteed), free breakfast at places that otherwise had an additional cost and free parking at hotels (when booking an award stay). I was very excited because the Hyatt Centric was one of those hotels that didn’t have free breakfast but offered free breakfast for Globalist members and their guest(s) (the free breakfast is valid for up to 2 adults & 2 children).

What was the location like?

The Hyatt Centric Montreal is situated in Old Montreal which is a beautiful part of the city. The first day my girlfriend, my friend, and I walked around Old Montreal as it was snowing—absolutely beautiful. There were all kinds of boutique shops that my girlfriend loved.

You are also about a 10-20 min drive or public transport to anywhere you’d like to go in the city. I drove my car up from Massachusetts so we opted to drive to anywhere that wasn’t walking distance.

My favorite activity was snowshoeing at Parc du Mont-Royal (Mount Royal Park). It was an 18 minute drive to the park that was just outside the city of Montreal. We rented snowshoes and ventured all over the park—it was our first time snowshoeing. The best part of the journey were the breathtaking views of Montreal from the park.

How was the room?

The room was great—it came with a king bed and a decent amount of space. There was a big screen TV along with a spacious bathroom as well. My only complaint is that the room didn’t have a lot of light.

(Plz ignore my messy bedmaking lol)

Any amenities?

The Hyatt Centric Montreal comes with a plethora of amenities:

  • Free Internet Access
  • Electric Vehicle Charging
  • On‑Site Restaurant
  • Room Service
  • Fitness Center
  • Pool
  • Pet Friendly
  • Digital Key
  • Digital Check‑In
  • In‑Room Chromecast
  • Laundry
  • Concierge
  • Meeting Facilities

I was able to check out the fitness center and work out with my girlfriend—much better than your average hotel gym. I didn’t know this when I stayed but it’s quite cool that the Hyatt Centric Montreal is a pet-friendly hotel. Many, many hotels don’t allow pets so this is a unique feature you could put to use if you have pets and don’t want to leave them with a doggy daycare.

I absolutely LOVED the on-site restaurant. With my friend’s Globalist benefits, we got access to free breakfast at the on-site restaurant. The food at the restaurant was great—my personal favorite was the French Toast.

The breakfast poutine was also quite good. Also ignore the broken egg haha I took the first bite before this picture was taken.

Last but not least I got the yogurt parfait a couple of times as a side and it was tasty.

Honestly, the best part of going to the on-site restaurant was that it would fill me up for breakfast and lunch. That way I’d only have to pay for dinner when dining in Montreal.

What was the service and general experience like?

Every person that I interacted with at the Hyatt Centric Montreal was pleasant and helpful. When I arrived at the hotel, it was early in the morning of the 17th around 1:00 am. The man at the desk was efficient and kind—he handed us our Globalist breakfast coupons, explained to us the parking situation and informed us of breakfast hours. For context, the reception is on a higher floor than the parking garage because the garage is essentially beneath the hotel. He gave us a little map with an address to show us where to park the car.

I also probably asked for 4 waters 10 different times and no one gave me any issues with this. The waiters and waitresses were also quite pleasant at the on-site restaurant—attentive, friendly and chatty.

With my friend’s Globalist benefits we got access to free parking (both valet and self-parking). I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of valet as I didn’t have cash on me for the whole trip so I couldn’t tip the valet attendant. And I didn’t want to have to wait for the attendant to get the car every time. So we opted for self-parking. All I had to do was get a ticket once and validate it at the reception desk. After validating the ticket, I could come and go during my stay with the ticket.

Final Remarks

If you’re looking to head to Canada for a vacation, I would 100% suggest staying in Montreal at the Hyatt Centric Montreal. It’s pretty inexpensive with cash OR points, making it an affordable trip. The staff are lovely and accommodating. And the location is excellent—you are close to all kinds of shops and restaurants. Montreal is a big city but you can pretty much get anywhere by public transport or car. My next vacay is probably going to be in Quebec City. Praying and hoping that I find a Hyatt
