After booking your hotel via the Chase Travel portal, you will receive a $50 credit to your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

With the Chase Travel hotel credit on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you have the potential to save money on hotel bookings.

I checked out a stay in sunny downtown Orlando at the Residence Inn Marriott from February 6th-8th, 2026 for a nice weekend stay—you can book this for $477 on the Chase Travel portal. And once the credit applies, it’s $427!

Or if you’re looking for a wintry getaway weekend, you could stay at the Holiday Inn & Suites MONTREAL CENTRE-VILLE OUEST by IHG from January 23rd-25th, 2026. This can be booked for $378 on the Chase Travel portal. With the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card hotel credit, you’ll only have to pay $328.

Notably, if you want to maximize the value of this credit, just book one night.

How do you know when to book a hotel on Chase Travel using the $50 credit versus booking a hotel directly?

It’s important to note that Chase Travel bookings can be more expensive than booking directly through an airline or hotel. That’s why if you are hoping to get the best value out of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card hotel credit, you need to see if you’re getting good value even with a $50 discount.

Let’s say you are looking to stay at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston from January 23rd-25th, 2026 on the Chase Travel portal. It’s $603 and with the $50 credit it would be $553. You would then compare this price to if you booked directly through the hotel.

After looking on the hotel’s website, I found that the same dates were $20 cheaper than the Chase Travel portal cost—$583.

However, with your Chase Travel hotel credit on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, it’s $553 of course. That means your Chase Travel hotel credit is $30 of value. Ideally you would like to book a hotel where you are maximizing the value of the credit.

For instance, if the hotel cost exactly the same as it appeared on the Chase Travel portal, you would be getting $50 of value.

Why are Chase Travel bookings often more expensive than booking directly with an airline or hotel?

Chase Travel bookings are generally more expensive than booking directly with an airline or hotel because they are managed by a 3rd party. You can think of this as something similar to Expedia.com or Hotels.com. Chase pays a company to manage their travel portal. That means that Chase is getting a cut while this 3rd party is also getting a cut—meaning that Chase Travel bookings are more expensive more often than not.

What are some of the other benefits on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card?

The Chase Travel hotel credit isn’t the only benefit on this card—you get complimentary DashPass for 12 months which is a $120 value. Along with this, you’ll get $10 off non-restaurant orders every month (as long as you stay enrolled in Dashpass). One of the benefits I really like is earning 5 points per $1 spent on Lyft rides. It’s an excellent benefit for me as I take Lyfts around Boston and when I travel pretty regularly.

The $50 Chase Travel hotel credit is a solid benefit on the $95 annual fee Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. It’s not the best benefit of the card as the ability to transfer to airline & hotel partners is by far the best feature. That’s what makes the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card stand out. Transferring to hotel and airline partners allows you to get incredible value for your points that you’ll earn.

However, the $50 credit is not something to sneeze at as you can get up to $50 when booking hotel stays on the Chase Travel portal. For your next hotel stay, make sure you compare Chase Travel hotel prices vs. booking directly to see if your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card credit is worth using!
