You are getting several new benefits starting June 15, 2026, including more 3x categories, a larger hotel credit, a trusted traveler credit, Apple TV+, and expanded travel protections.
But Chase is also removing two valuable features for Sapphire Preferred cardholders: 1:1 transfers to World of Hyatt and the 10% anniversary points bonus. The good news is that current cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 get a transition window before those legacy benefits go away.
TLDR
- Current cardholders get the new benefits starting June 15, 2026 (applies to anyone who applied for the card before June 15).
- New spending benefits include 3x points on gas, EV charging, and vacation rentals from brands like Airbnb and Vrbo.
- The Chase Travel hotel credit is increasing from up to $50 to $100 per account anniversary year.
- Current cardholders also get a $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit every four years and a complimentary one-year Apple TV+ subscription when activated by December 31, 2026 (starting June 15, 2026)
- Cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 keep 1:1 Hyatt transfers through October 1, 2026.
- For current cardholders who also applied before June 15, 2026, eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026 will continue earning the 10% anniversary points bonus, which will be awarded by January 31, 2027.
What Changes for Current Sapphire Preferred Cardholders?
The most important thing to know is that the $95 annual fee is staying the same. Summary of all the other changes:
| Benefit | Description (for Sapphire Preferred cardholders who applied for the card prior to June 15, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | Staying at $95 |
| 3x gas and EV charging | Starts June 15, 2026 |
| 3x vacation rentals | Starts June 15, 2026 |
| Chase Travel hotel credit | Increases from up to $50 to $100 |
| Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/NEXUS credit | Up to $120 every four years |
| Apple TV+ | Complimentary one-year subscription when activated by December 31, 2026 |
| 1:1 Hyatt transfers* | Continue through October 1, 2026 |
| 10% anniversary bonus* | Continues on eligible purchases through October 1, 2026 |
*If you apply for the Preferred starting June 15, 2026, you don’t get these two benefits at all.
New Benefits You Get Starting June 15, 2026
The new benefits are not only for new applicants. Current Sapphire Preferred cardholders get them too, starting June 15, 2026.
3x Points on Gas and EV Charging
The Sapphire Preferred is adding 3x points on gas and EV charging purchases.
That makes the card more practical for everyday spending, especially for people who already use it as their primary travel card. Gas and EV charging were not historically standout categories on any Chase card, so this is one of the more useful changes for current cardholders.
3x Points on Vacation Rentals
The card is also adding 3x points on vacation homes at top brands, including Airbnb, Vrbo, and more.
This is a strong addition because vacation rentals can be some of the biggest travel purchases people make each year. Families, groups, ski travelers, beach travelers, and long-stay travelers may spend more on Airbnb or Vrbo than traditional hotels.
And, there are almost no other competing cards that earn 3x in this category. Unique benefit.
The Preferred’s Hotel Credit Increases to $100
The Chase Travel hotel credit is increasing from up to $50 to up to $100 per account anniversary year.
This is one of the clearest upgrades. Since the card’s annual fee remains $95, using the full $100 hotel credit can offset the annual fee on paper. The main catch is that the credit only applies to hotels booked through Chase Travel.
New $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS Credit
Current Preferred cardholders will also get a credit of up to $120 every four years for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS starting June 15, 2026.
This is a nice addition for a $95 annual fee travel card. If you do not already have another card that reimburses these application fees, this can be one of the easiest new benefits to use.
If you already have multiple premium cards with trusted traveler credits, the value is lower, but it can still be useful for renewing your own membership or covering an eligible application fee when available.
One Year of Apple TV+
The refreshed Sapphire Preferred includes a complimentary one-year Apple TV+ subscription when activated by December 31, 2026. Terms apply. This is not the main reason to keep the card, but it is still real value if you already pay for Apple TV+ or wanted to try it.
Expanded Travel Protections
Chase is also expanding the card’s travel protections, now including Emergency Evacuation and Transportation coverage.
The Sapphire Preferred already has a solid travel protection package for a $95 annual fee card, including trip cancellation/interruption insurance, auto rental collision damage waiver, lost luggage insurance, baggage delay coverage, and more. The expanded protections make the card stronger for travelers who want built-in coverage without paying for a premium card.
According to Chase, this gives the Preferred the “most comprehensive suite of built-in travel protections” for a $95 annual fee card. I would indeed say that its insurance now wholly beats out that of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or Citi Strata Premier® Card.
What You Keep Until October 01, 2026
This is the part current cardholders should focus on (or applicable to anyone who applies for the card before June 15, 2026).
If you applied for the Sapphire Preferred before June 15, 2026, you get the new benefits starting June 15 while also keeping two legacy benefits through October 1, 2026.
That gives existing cardholders a short window where the card is better than both the old version and the new version.
1:1 Hyatt Transfers Continue Temporarily
Current cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 will keep 1:1 transfers to World of Hyatt through October 01, 2026.
After that, Sapphire Preferred transfers to World of Hyatt are being nerfed to 4:3. That means 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points will only become 75,000 Hyatt points instead of 100,000 Hyatt points.
| Chase Ultimate Rewards Points | Hyatt Points at 1:1 | Hyatt Points at 4:3 |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | 10,000 | 7,500 |
| 40,000 | 40,000 | 30,000 |
| 60,000 | 60,000 | 45,000 |
| 100,000 | 100,000 | 75,000 |
For Hyatt loyalists, this is the biggest negative change. World of Hyatt has long been one of the strongest Chase transfer partners, and moving from 1:1 to 4:3 is a meaningful devaluation (stacking ontop of the already recent award chart devaluation).
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® will retain 1:1 transfers to World of Hyatt, so Hyatt-focused cardholders may need to rethink which Sapphire card makes the most sense long term.
The 10% Anniversary Bonus Continues Temporarily
Current cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 will continue earning the 10% anniversary points bonus on eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026.
Under the outgoing benefit, cardholders earn bonus points equal to 10% of total purchases made during the previous account anniversary year. For example, $20,000 in eligible purchases would earn a 2,000-point anniversary bonus.
The final bonus for eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026 will be awarded by January 31, 2027.
All things considered, this is not likely a major loss for many cardholders. I’d rather lose this in return for the other new benefits (well, not Hyatt 4:3)
What Current Cardholders Should Do Now
The best move is to use the transition window intentionally.
First, look at your Hyatt plans. If you know you want to book Hyatt stays and need Hyatt points, consider transferring Chase points before October 1, 2026 while the 1:1 ratio is still available. Do not transfer speculatively unless you are comfortable locking those points into World of Hyatt, since Chase point transfers generally cannot be reversed.
Second, activate and use the benefits that apply to you. The Apple TV+ benefit requires activation by December 31, 2026. The Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit can be worth up to $120 every four years. The new 3x gas, EV charging, and vacation rental categories should also change which purchases you put on the card.
Finally, reassess your Chase setup before October 1. If Hyatt transfers are central to your strategy, the Sapphire Reserve may become more important. If you use the Sapphire Preferred mostly for general travel, dining, gas, vacation rentals, and the hotel credit, the card may still be easy to justify.
Is the Sapphire Preferred Still Worth Keeping?
For many current cardholders, yes.
The Sapphire Preferred becomes more useful for everyday travelers who spend on gas, EV charging, vacation rentals, dining, streaming, online groceries, and Chase Travel. The increased $100 hotel credit and new trusted traveler credit also make the $95 annual fee easier to justify (whilst still providing a complimentary DashPass subscription through 12/31/2027 and monthly DoorDash nonrestaurant promos).
But the card is clearly getting worse for Hyatt loyalists. If 1:1 Hyatt transfers were the main reason you kept the Sapphire Preferred, the card becomes less compelling after October 1, 2026.
The bottom line: this is a good update for casual travelers and a bad update for points maximizers who rely heavily on Hyatt.
FAQs
When do current Sapphire Preferred cardholders get the new benefits?
Current Sapphire Preferred cardholders get the new benefits starting June 15, 2026. The new benefits include 3x gas & EV charging, 3x vacation rentals, an increased up to $100 Chase Travel hotel credit, a $120 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/NEXUS credit every four years, Apple TV+, and expanded travel protections. However, World of Hyatt transfers are going down to 4:3 and the 10% anniversary bonus is being shelved.
Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred annual fee increasing?
No, the Chase Sapphire Preferred annual fee is staying at $95. That is one of the biggest positives of the refresh because Chase is changing the card without increasing the annual fee.
Do current cardholders keep 1:1 Hyatt transfers?
Yes, cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 keep 1:1 World of Hyatt transfers through October 01, 2026. After that date, Sapphire Preferred transfers to World of Hyatt change to 4:3.
Is the 10% anniversary bonus ending?
Yes, the 10% anniversary points bonus is being discontinued. Current cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026 will still earn the bonus on eligible purchases made through October 01, 2026, with the final bonus awarded by January 31, 2027.
What happens if I already used my $50 hotel credit?
If you already used your $50 hotel credit, Chase is not adding a separate new $100 credit. The maximum credit is increasing to $100, so you should have an additional $50 available during the same account anniversary year. One of those rare cases where if you were being lazy with your credit, it’s actually beneficial.
Should I transfer Chase points to Hyatt before October 01?
Transfer Chase points to Hyatt before October 01 if you already know you will use Hyatt points and want the current 1:1 ratio. Avoid speculative transfers unless you are comfortable moving those points permanently into World of Hyatt.
Is the Sapphire Preferred still worth keeping after the changes?
The Sapphire Preferred is still worth keeping if you use the $100 hotel credit, spend on gas or EV charging, book vacation rentals, or value the new trusted traveler credit. It is less compelling if your main reason for holding the card is 1:1 Hyatt transfers.
