Prime members who apply for the Prime Visa by July 14, 2025, will instantly receive a $250 Amazon Gift Card upon approval. This can be enticing to many, as you’re not required to spend a set amount of money to receive the $250 gift card.
There’s no catch to receiving the gift card; you simply need to be an existing Prime member, apply for the card, and get approved.
You can use the gift card to cover a variety of items that you could put in your Amazon cart, especially with Prime Day approaching very soon.
For example, if you’re eyeing new luggage like I am, you could use the $250 gift card to nearly cover the cost of a new Away carry-on luggage. Additionally, since Prime Day hasn’t officially hit yet, Away luggage could be discounted, and you might even be able to use the gift card to fully cover the costs of a luggage piece!

The Prime Visa doesn’t offer stellar travel protections compared to other travel-oriented credit cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, Sapphire Reserve for Business℠, or United Quest℠ Card. However, if you don’t have a travel-exclusive card in your wallet yet, the Prime Visa could be useful for its travel protections.
Whether it’s worth getting the Prime Visa is up to your personal spending habits. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, and/or you frequently make Amazon purchases, the Prime Visa can be a very strategic addition to your wallet.
Considering the 7% cash back for Prime Day, as well as the unlimited 5% back on all Amazon purchases, the Prime Visa will be very useful for making any purchases on Amazon. If you’re a frequent Amazon customer and you don’t have the Prime Visa yet, it might be time to take advantage of the $250 gift card bonus and apply for the card.
It is worth noting that the Prime Visa is not subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule when applying for the card, meaning that even if you’ve been approved for more than 5 cards within the past 24 months, you can still get approved for the Prime Visa.
However, the Prime Visa does contribute to the 5/24 rule when applying to other cards. If you’ve been approved for more than 5 cards within the past 24 months, including the Prime Visa, Chase is unlikely to approve your application for a credit card from them.
I would rather use one of my 5/24 slots for credit cards that have a higher welcome offer, and earn points instead of cash back. However, if you don’t have an Amazon card yet, you might find it worthwhile getting the card, especially considering the fact that you don’t have to spend anything to get the sign-up offer.
