Bilt Adds Thumbtack as New Bilt Cash Redemption (Nov 2026)

Bilt has added a new Bilt Cash redemption on November 1, 2026: up to $50 toward a Thumbtack booking twice a year, for up to $100 annually.

Thumbtack lets you hire local pros for cleaning, repairs and other home projects. This is a pretty cool benefit to add that we think many folks will like.

How the Bilt Cash Thumbtack credit works

You get one redemption per period, even if you use less than $50. If you redeem $30 on a booking, you can’t use the remaining $20 allowance on another job. Unused allowances don’t roll over.

There is currently no increased redemption cap even if you have Bilt status.

What you can book through Bilt for Thumbtack services

Bilt’s Home Maintenance menu includes:

• House cleaning, window cleaning and carpet cleaning

• Handyman work and TV mounting

• Junk removal

• Lawn mowing and trimming

• Pressure washing and gutter cleaning and maintenance

There’s also an Other Services option. The services you can book depend on your location.

We tested this mostly for house cleaning. Bilt asks for your location and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms:

How to redeem Bilt Cash for Thumbtack

There are two methods, but both technically involve booking through Bilt in the first place.

Book a service at a fixed price

1. Open Home Maintenance in the Bilt app.

2. Choose an available Thumbtack service, date and time.

3. Toggle Bilt Cash at checkout to apply up to $50 toward the booking.

Thumbtack assigns your pro before the appointment. You pay through Bilt at checkout, with no separate payment to the pro.

Prepaid bookings aren’t available in every area.

Request a quote through Bilt and pay the pro directly

You can arrange the job and pay the Thumbtack pro directly, but you must request the quote through Bilt first. A booking started entirely on Thumbtack’s own app or website doesn’t qualify.

After the job, submit a credit request within 30 days of completion. Include an invoice, receipt or other requested proof. Once Bilt and Thumbtack verify the job, Bilt deducts the Bilt Cash and sends you a digital check for the redeemed amount. This route also lets you discuss the job and agree on a price directly with the pro (which could lower costs, but not as easy as one stop quote).

NOTE: Bilt deducts the Bilt Cash when it verifies your claim, using your balance and redemption allowance at that time… so it could miss the semiannual deadlines if you submit close to the half of the year.

Comparing Thumbtack prices through Bilt vs. booking directly

We tested Bilt’s house-cleaning prices across different home sizes, cleaning options, locations and appointment dates. We also checked direct Thumbtack estimates for comparable cleaning requirements.

For this comparison, we used the same hypothetical setup at each address: one bedroom, one bathroom, standard cleaning, no pets and no extras.

Bilt quoted $175 in all eight tests across all city & sample homes. That suggests location and booking lead time didn’t affect this particular configuration in our sample… not that every city or appointment will have the same price.

How much does home size change Bilt’s price?

With the sample San Francisco address we tested, standard cleaning with no pets or extras produced these prices when booking through the Bilt portal.

This is all to say: it is a bit inconclusive if the prices are significantly higher through Bilt vs Thumbtack. It seems likely yes just given some guesses on how businesses operate, but that isn’t saying that this won’t be a good use of Bilt Cash.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a Bilt credit card to use Bilt Cash?

No. Eligible Bilt Rewards members can redeem Bilt Cash without holding a Bilt credit card. It’s just significantly harder to earn Bilt Cash if you don’t have one of the cards.

Can you earn Bilt Points on Thumbtack bookings?

Yes, on prepaid bookings through Bilt. The amount paid with an eligible linked card earns 1 Bilt Point per dollar, plus the card’s usual rewards.

Quote-based jobs don’t earn the extra 1X from Bilt.

Can you use Bilt Cash if you book directly with Thumbtack?

Only through Bilt’s quote process: request the quote in Bilt, then book and pay the matched pro directly.

You can’t claim the Bilt Cash credit for an booking made directly on Thumbtack; it must originate from Bilt itself.

What happens if you cancel a Thumbtack booking made through Bilt?

For prepaid bookings, cancel more than 24 hours before the appointment for a refund without a cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 24 hours before the appointment incur a $15 fee. For quote-based jobs, arrange cancellations directly with the professional.

It depends. In our one-bedroom, one-bathroom tests, Bilt quoted $175 at all four addresses. That was above both direct booking Thumbtack San Francisco estimate ranges but within the Manhattan and Los Angeles ranges.
