Chase Sapphire Reserve vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred: Which Sapphire Card Should You Get in June 2026?

TLDR: The new Bilt cards all launched today, and its a good move to start making sure you've activated all of the benefits on the cards & in the Bilt Rewards program.

This article is only relevant if you preordered your Bilt Palladium Card and received it on launch day February 07, 2026.
Yay! The wait is finally over.
My Bilt Palladium Card is finally activated and its time to get busy with taking advantage of this card's structure and bonus earnings. There's a lot of stuff to look into, but I've spent some time just outlining everything you need to do.
In a nutshell:
There are potentially two major spending promotions (targeted) for folks who preordered their Palladiums:
The best way to see if you're eligible for either of these promotional offers is by checking your email. I was only eligible for the Mobile Wallet one; sad that I'm not getting the awesome TPG deal...
Note that both of these spending promotions have very specific timelines with them. If you don't use them on time, you won't get the extra points.
You need to activate your Palladium's Priority Pass in order to use it. It will not be usable until it is properly configured. From the Guide to Benefits:
Before traveling, eligible cardholders need to activate their membership using their Bilt Palladium Card at the www.PriorityPass.com website. Once activated, cardholders can log on their Priority Pass account at www.PriorityPass.com and view a list of participating lounges and experiences.
Unlike some Amex or Chase cards, you do not need to activate any of the hotel credits or benefits to receive them. So that makes life relatively easy on that front.
As a reminder, the only "credit" on the Palladium is the $400 hotel credit (up to $200 semiannually).
The important thing is that the hotel credits are on a semiannual basis. Since we get the card on February 07, we only have ~5 months before the end of the first half of the year.
Here's how the up to $400 hotel credit is split up:
Best to start looking into this a bit earlier rather than later, given our timeframe for the first set of the Palladium's credit is a bit shorter than I'd like. This credit does not roll over; it is use or lose it.
Since preorders all launched on February 07, 2026, the timeline for the bonus is actually very well defined at this moment:
Welcome bonus (subject to approval): 50,000 Bilt Points + Gold Status after spending $4,000 on everyday purchases in the first 3 months + $300 of Bilt Cash.
So, based on 3 months, the deadline is roughly May 6-8, depending on how Bilt defines a "3 month" period (90 days or 3 months).
It's in your best interest to make sure your Bilt Rewards is all set up properly so that you can earn additional points on various eligible purchases.
Making sure the right cards are linked with Bilt Wallet is crucial.
Follow these instructions:
Remember: you will not earn additional Bilt Points for eligible neighborhood dining purchases unless you pay with a linked card.
With a Bilt Rewards account, you can earn an additional 2x Bilt Points per dollar spent on Lyft rideshare if your Lyft/Bilt accounts are linked + you select Bilt your Lyft partner.
To do this, first get started by navigating to the Bilt Neighborhood page:
Once you're at this page, go to the "Rideshare" part of the options:
And then at the bottom of the page, you'll be able to see if your Lyft account is linked.
Starting today Feb 07, there are two Bilt Cash "deposits" made into your account:
Given you get $500 of Bilt Cash right away, there's a lot of things you can do with it. But, just to be clear, there's a clear mathematical hierarchy in terms of what the best redemptions are. From highest to lowest (฿ used for Bilt Cash symbol):
For example, you should realistically never use Points Accelerator until you've redeemed Bilt Cash for the others.
Bilt announced the various ways to use Bilt Cash on Jan 21, 2026 and one of the biggest things to note is that there are a lot of monthly/yearly restrictions in play. That is to say, for instance, you can't just use infinite Bilt Cash for Lyft rides.
If you have any legitimate Bilt Cash credit redemptions in mind, I think it makes a lot of sense to start using them in the first month you can. Especially noting that the Bilt Cash you earn in 2026 expires in the calendar year they're earned (except for ฿100 of Bilt Cash that rollsover).
For instance, I will immediately be using my Bilt Cash for Lyft (up to $10/month). I also like to order GrubHub from this cafe, so I'll likely use it there as well (up to $10/month). I also need to use my Palladium hotel credit for H1 2026, so I'm going to see if I can stack it with the Bilt Cash hotel redemption—if that works, then this would be an awesome redemption.
However, outside of this, I don't have immediate plans. Of my immediate ฿500 Bilt Cash coming in on Feb 07, that would use about ฿120 of it. So, that leaves ฿380.
Redeeming Bilt Cash against your rent/mortgage gives you more value than points accelerator.
In my case, my $3,000 rent requires me to use just ฿90 Bilt Cash to earn 3,000 Bilt Points. In my case, this leaves a good amount of Bilt Cash leftover (฿310), which leads us to the Points Accelerator discussion.
It's not necessarily a very easy answer; a bit of a complex one to be honest.
It depends on:
For me, I plan to spend about $1,600 on the Palladium per month, meaning I should get about ฿64 Bilt Cash per month.
But, my Bilt Cash "uses" are somewhat also predictable per month:
So, about ฿110 Bilt Cash used every month.
This means I expect net "burn" about ฿50 Bilt Cash per month. So my leftover ฿310 Bilt Cash will only hold me until 6 months from now. This means I should not use anything towards Points Accelerator.
If you expect to have a lot of excess Bilt Cash towards the end of the year, then I'd go ahead and activate the accelerator earlier. Accelerator point bonuses end at the end of the calendar year.
The Palladium comes with a slew of useful benefits. While there's not too many things you have to enroll in, there is a bit of strategizing to think about, especially if you elect to earn Bilt Cash via Option 2.
However, if you want to keep things simple, I would just use your Bilt Cash for your rent. That requires the absolute least amount of information and things to remember.
