TLDR; Bilt is coming out with new cards in February 2026 with a new card issuer in Cardless. If you have a Bilt card currently, it will be automatically converted into a Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card.

Right now Bilt’s card issuer is Wells Fargo and it will be changing over to Cardless on February 7, 2026. From the surface, it’s a bit unclear what happens to your current Bilt Wells Fargo card.

Your current Bilt card (issued by Wells Fargo) will be converted to a Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card and you will then have the option to get one of the Bilt 2.0 cards.

Do I have to apply to get access to the new Bilt cards?

Yes, you will have to "apply" to the new Bilt 2.0 cards in order to get them.

If you are an existing cardholder, you will be able to apply for one of the new cards with just a soft inquiry.

In early January, Bilt will have a special event for their Bilt 2.0 cards, where you will be able to select one of the three cards. Existing cardholders of the Wells Fargo Bilt cards will be able to choose one of these cards without a hard inquiry into their credit. The big question is—will choosing a Bilt 2.0 card as an existing Wells Fargo Bilt cardholder count towards Chase’s 5/24 rule? Right now, it’s unclear.

If I was a betting man, I’d say that it would count towards your 5/24 for Chase, given you still need at least a soft inquiry for the application.

What happens to my current Wells Fargo Bilt card?

If you are a current Wells Fargo Bilt cardholder, your card will be automatically converted to the Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card on February 6, 2026.

If you don't want the card, I don't think there's a way to stop it from changing. However, after the product change takes place, you can close the card (per usual processes). It’s not a huge deal as the Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card is a no annual fee card so having that card on your Wells Fargo account is at no cost to you.

What’s the Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card like?

The Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card is not a “bad” card but it's definitely not towards the top of my credit card standings. It’s a no annual fee card with no foreign transaction fees which is definitely a plus.

The earn rates are not bad either:

  • 3 points per $1 on travel, dining and gas
  • 1 point per $1 on all other purchases

While the earn rates are solid for a no annual fee card, the travel partners are where Wells Fargo falls short. They have Aer Lingus, Air France, Avianca, British Airways, Iberia, Virgin Airlines and Choice Priviliges—while these are good partners there are other credit card companies that have more partners and better partners. Chase, Capital One and American Express are a few that come to mind.

Should I keep my Bilt card after Bilt comes out with new cards?

When Bilt comes out with their new cards, your old Bilt card will be converted into the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card.

Unless you really want to consolidate or limit your cards, you don't really need to do anything with the Autograph card. You can just keep it in your drawer and never touch it, since it's a no annual fee card after all.

Should I get the Bilt 2.0 card?

If you are a current Wells Fargo Bilt cardholder, you should 100% get one of the Bilt 2.0 cards as you will be able to continue earning Bilt rewards that way. And I’m sure there will be lots of benefits announced in early January which will make it that much more intriguing.

To be abundantly clear, your Bilt rewards membership and existing points are separate from the credit card and will remain there regardless of what you choose to do with the Wells Fargo Bilt card and the Bilt 2.0 cards.

And if you don’t have a Bilt card currently, it might be time to strike with Bilt with the Bilt 2.0 cards. One new feature on the Bilt 2.0 cards is that you will be able to earn points with mortgage payments! So if you are a renter OR have mortgage payments, you should 100% get one of the Bilt 2.0 cards. With the Wells Fargo Bilt card, it was only beneficial for renters to go for it. But now with the Bilt 2.0 cards, pretty much everyone in the credit card space can find usage for Bilt 2.0.

What am I doing with my Bilt card issued by Wells Fargo?

Firstly, I can't really do much off the bat—it's going to automatically be converted into the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card.

In January 2026, Bilt should be opening up its first wave of "soft inquiries" for the new Bilt cards. Although we know there are going to be three new cards, there's currently very little detail about them. What we do know is that there is going to be one with no annual fee (similar to the core Bilt card), alongside two options with annual fees. I at least plan on getting at least the new no annual fee card, but need more details on the other two before deciding if I will go down that path.

On February 07, 2026, all old Bilt cards issued by Wells Fargo will be converted into the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card. For me, I already have strong cards that fulfill purchase categories in travel, gas, and dining, so I have very little reason to use this card. This will become a "sock drawer" card that I won't use and don't need to touch, since it has no annual fee.

Final Remarks

Bilt 2.0 is a big change for customers but it should be a welcomed and positive change.

For existing Wells Fargo Bilt cardholders, there shouldn’t be much hassle as you just need to be on the lookout for Bilt 2.0 in January so that you can apply for the new card via soft inquiry. Your Bilt card will be automatically converted to the no annual fee Wells Fargo Autograph® Card on February 07, 2026.

FAQs

On February 07, 2026, your Bilt card (issued by Wells Fargo) will automatically convert into the Wells Fargo Autograph Visa card.

This will depend on your situation. Given the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card has no annual fee, it's a pretty easy "sock drawer" card that you don't really need to touch. If you find it to be bothersome to have another card, then you can just leave it.

One of the known benefits on the new Bilt 2.0 cards is that you’ll be able to earn points with mortgages now. However, very little information has otherwise been shared.

There could be a temporary small decrease in your credit score since you'd lose out on the total credit line. But if you already have a bunch of credit cards, the effect is negligible.

There are two dates to keep in mind:

  • January 2026: You can apply for the new Bilt cards via soft inquiry
  • February 07, 2026: Your old Bilt card (issued by Wells Fargo) will be converted into the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card
