How is the Holiday Inn Hyannis in Cape Cod, Massachusetts?

I was able to use my annual free night that I earned with my IHG One Rewards Premier Card to book a stay at the Holiday Inn in Hyannis, Massachusetts in the Cape Cod area. With this annual free night, I was able to save over $100.

Staying in Cape Cod can be a pricey affair nowadays and the Holiday Inn in Hyannis can be an affordable option to book your next Cape vacation.

What was the cost?

As I stated above, I booked the Holiday Inn in Hyannis using my annual free night with my IHG One Rewards Premier Card. This card has a $95 annual fee. This hotel often costs $200 or more during peak times so I’m saving money when booking this hotel with my IHG Premier card. When I stayed this past summer, the hotel cost $217. That means I saved $122 using my annual free night.

The cost of this hotel without using an annual free night on a card like the IHG Premier card is still reasonable. Airbnbs can often cost $100-$200 more for similar bookings.

You could also use the points from the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card's bonus to book this hotel.

The Airbnb shown above is for a small cottage for 2 nights on a weekend in June next year (June 12-14, 2026). For the Holiday Inn in Hyannis, you would be paying $442—saving $146 on your weekend vacation.

And when you are looking for hotels at a similar price you are getting motels or low rated no-name hotels. Not ideal.

What was the location like?

Being in Hyannis you are close to everything you would need and want in a Cape Cod vacation. You are less than 10 minutes away from all the shopping and restaurants on Main Street in Hyannis. And from one of my favorite restaurants in Hyannis—Baxter’s Boathouse. All of the food is great there but my personal favorite is the Fish & Chips. My girlfriend is a big fan of lobster so she likes the Lobster Roll.

You are 15 minutes away from another popular spot in the town of Dennis. It's the Main Street in Dennis. Both Main Streets in Dennis and Hyannis are great for walking around for some food and souvenir shopping.

Another benefit of being in Hyannis is that you are less than 10 minutes away from popular beaches like the Hyannis Port beach in Barnstable.

You can also hop on the ferry to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard just 5 minutes away from the hotel. Once you get to the ferry, it's just an hour boat ride to either island. Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard each have their own appeals.

Nantucket has more of a formal and preppy vibe and things are expensive there. It is also a smaller and quieter island. Martha’s Vineyard is eclectic with cultural diversity and more options on things to do.

My preference is Martha’s Vineyard as it's more affordable than Nantucket and there’s more things to do at night. I found that shops and restaurants got real quiet by 7 or 8 pm in Nantucket. The bright and vibrant colors of the buildings in Martha’s Vineyard really stood out to me and presented a welcoming vibe. Nantucket might be better for those looking for a serene and relaxing day trip.

How was the room itself?

The room was much better than I expected. Upon arriving at the hotel the employee at the desk upgraded me based on my Platinum Elite status with IHG (I earned this status with my IHG Premier card). So that meant instead of a room with a king bed, I got that and more.

The area with the king bed was spacious and tidy. The room had an upstairs as well. The upstairs had a couch with a TV. You also had access to a porch in the upstairs area.

It's too bad I was not staying here for more than one night since I would have really enjoyed the bigger room if so. When I’m taking a weekend trip somewhere, I don’t usually feel the need to spend much time in the room. During a week-long stay, I find that sometimes it's nice to kick back and relax.

Any amenities?

The internet at the Holiday Inn in Hyannis was fine and easy to connect to. There’s also two on-site restaurants there—The Green House and The Madhatter. Unfortunately, there isn’t any free breakfast. However, kids do eat free with a paying adult.

Two other nice benefits are the fitness center and the indoor pool. I find indoor pools are always great for a family vacation. Lastly, there’s free on-site parking at the hotel. Driving a car to the hotel is the best way and really the only way to get to the hotel so free parking is always nice.

What was the service and general experience like?

I found the staff at the hotel to have pretty bare minimum service besides the room upgrade. When I arrived at the hotel, there was someone from Peru in front of me. His english was clearly limited and the employee was getting frustrated. The man asked the employee for restaurant recommendations and the employee said “just look it up on Google.” Not very friendly behavior to say the least.

When I talked with the same employee, it was very awkward for no reason. And he clearly wanted to just move on to the next customer. It didn’t cause any problems with my stay but I’m sure it could with someone else.

What are the reviews like?

The Holiday Inn in Hyannis has a 4.1 star rating on Google with mostly four star and five star reviews. Contrary to what I said, folks speak highly of the staff experiences. There’s also a few mentions of room upgrades like the one I received.

Reviews mention the room upgrade as a platinum member with IHG. This room upgrade benefit is something you can receive at a number of IHG hotels. It's also nice to have when you are trying to check in early or check out late. I find that with my status now, hotel staff are more likely to be lenient with my requests.

Another review mentioned how there’s easy and convenient access to restaurants, shops and beaches. One of the best features of this hotel has to be the excellent location.

Final Remarks

The Holiday Inn in Hyannis is a solidly rated IHG hotel in a prime vacation spot. You are getting a name brand hotel while also being in a good location near all the spots you’d like to visit. Rooms are spacious and clean but don’t expect anything luxurious. The Holiday Inn in Hyannis is great for folks looking to save a bit of cash on a destination trip.
