Atmos Summit Partner Award Fee Waiver: Save $20 Each Way

If you use Atmos Rewards points to book flights on partner airlines such as American Airlines, Japan Airlines or other Alaska partners, there is an easy-to-overlook cash cost attached to those awards: a $20 nonrefundable partner award booking fee per person, each way.
The Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® credit card eliminates that fee for eligible partner award reservations booked through the primary cardholder’s Atmos Rewards account. For someone who regularly uses Atmos points for partner awards, this can be one of the card’s most underrated benefits.

What is the Atmos Rewards $20 partner award booking fee?
Atmos Rewards lets you redeem points across Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, oneworld airlines and other global partners. The Atmos Rewards program is considered one of the best loyalty program arounds, given the types of quality redemptions you can find.
Unfortunately, when you book an award on an airline partner, Atmos ordinarily adds a nonrefundable partner award booking fee. That fee increased to $20 beginning July 1, 2026.
The key phrase here is per person, each way:

This partner award booking fee is separate from the points required for the award ticket and any applicable taxes or partner-imposed surcharges.
The fee also applies based on the itinerary containing a partner award segment, rather than simply charging $20 for every individual flight segment. Alaska describes it as a $20 fee per person, each way for itineraries containing one or more partner award segments.
The nonrefundability impacts award ticket flexibility
If you didn’t know, Atmos Rewards award reservations are (essentially) refundable. If you cancel your award ticket, your points go back into your account and any taxes paid will be refunded.
But that $20 partner award fee? Nonrefundable.
For instance, I remember booking an American Airlines partner flight and then I had to cancel it. But, I cancelled it 25 hours after booking. Meaning, I had to cough up the fee. Sad.
The fee hurts cheap partner awards the most
Atmos uses distance-based starting prices for partner awards. Within the Americas, for example, economy partner awards of less than 700 miles start at 4,500 Atmos points each way, while awards covering 701 to 1,400 miles start at 7,500 points each way.
But, no matter the cost, you’re still paying a $20 partner award redemption fee.
Consider a short partner flight on American Airlines available for 4,500 points. Without the Summit, it costs: 4,500 Atmos points + $20 partner booking fee + $5.60 in applicable taxes and fees
The $20 partner fee is substantial relative to an award requiring only 4,500 points.
With the Summit, those partner booking fees disappear, meaning this flight costs just 4,500 points + $5.60 in taxes/fees. If you make these inexpensive partner bookings frequently, the savings accumulate quickly.
The Atmos Summit Card waives the $20 partner award booking fee
This is where the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® credit card becomes particularly useful for frequent award travelers and is also one of my favorite, lowkey features. Here’s the official legalese:
The Primary Cardholder using their Atmos™ Rewards points for travel on Alaska Airlines' network of airline partners is eligible for the waiver of the booking fee associated with airline partner redemptions.
All reservations made using the Primary Cardholder's Atmos™ Rewards account are eligible for this benefit, including reservations with multiple travelers where the Primary Cardholder is not a traveler.
Award ticket's applicable taxes and fees must be purchased with the Primary Cardholder's card.
Ok, so there’s a lot of interesting takeaways here.
The waiver also works when you aren't traveling
One unusual aspect of the benefit is that the primary Summit cardholder does not necessarily need to be on the trip.
For instance, you can book awards for other passengers (even if the primary cardholder isn’t traveling), as long as the award is booked from the primary cardholder’s Atmos Rewards account + using their card. This means you can book a flight for your sibling using your Atmos points and card so that they can avoid the $20 partner fee.
That makes this quite different from perks such as a free checked bag, which may only produce value when you personally fly under specific conditions. The partner fee waiver can have value whenever you are using your Atmos points to make eligible partner bookings from your account.
Strategically speaking, the Atmos Summit enables Points Sharing, which is a benefit that allows you to create a points sharing network with up to 10 additional Atmos Rewards accounts. So, you can:
Create a Points Sharing network with your family
Move your family’s points to your account (the primary cardholder)
Book partner flights with your Atmos Summit and waive the $20 partner fee
If you get creative, you can make for quite a bit of savings. Both features are alone are useful aspects of the card.
How much can the partner booking fee waiver save?
It all truly depends on how much you fly. For an occasional solo traveler, this is a modest perk. If you book one round-trip partner award during the year, you avoid $40 in fees. Book more, you save more.
Example: Two people flying American Airlines
Suppose you use Atmos points to book a round trip for two travelers on an eligible American Airlines award.
Without the Summit:
$20 outbound fee × 2 travelers = $40
$20 return fee × 2 travelers = $40
Total partner award fees: $80
With the Summit, the eligible partner booking fees are waived.
That is $80 of real cash savings on one reservation—not an estimated points valuation or a credit that requires additional spending.
Example: Solo traveler taking many shorthaul flights
Let’s say you need to hop between San Francisco and Los Angeles frequently and fly American Airlines 12 times a year. Booking with Atmos points means that route starts off at just 4,500 points each way, but it would also come with that hefty $20 charge per direction.
$20 × 12 flights =
$240 in partner award booking fees
That starts to become material against the Summit card’s $395 annual fee, particularly because the fee waiver is only one of the card’s benefits. The Summit also includes its Global Companion Awards, Alaska Lounge passes, status-point benefits and other travel perks.
You should not count hypothetical savings that you would never otherwise incur, but travelers who already redeem Atmos points for partners can assign this perk a fairly straightforward value: the actual partner booking fees they would otherwise pay.
What the Summit partner fee waiver does not cover
The waiver should not be interpreted as making partner award tickets completely free of cash charges.
Atmos award tickets remain subject to applicable government taxes and fees, which vary based on the itinerary. International awards can also carry carrier-imposed fees or surcharges depending on the flights involved.
The Summit benefit specifically addresses the $20 partner award booking fee.
Is the partner award fee waiver enough to justify the Summit?
Probably not by itself for most travelers, but it is a valuable benefit to consider in the calculus.
Let’s start with the big one: the Summit has a $395 annual fee.
In the last 10ish months of owning the Atmos Summit, I’ve used the partner award fee waiver 11 times. That means I’ve saved about $220 in nonrefundable award booking fees!
The fee waiver becomes particularly attractive when combined with the Summit’s other benefits. Eg using the card’s Global Companion Award, lounge passes, status benefits, and 3 points per dollar spent on foreign purchases is more than enough to offset the annual fee with the partner fee waiver.
For someone who almost exclusively redeems Atmos points on Alaska- or Hawaiian-operated flights, though, the waiver should not factor heavily into the decision.
Bottom line
The Atmos Summit partner award booking fee waiver became more valuable in July 2026 when Atmos increased its standard partner award fee from $12.50 to $20 per person, each way.
For Summit cardholders, eligible partner award reservations booked through the primary cardholder’s Atmos Rewards account can avoid that fee. A solo round trip saves $40, a round trip for two saves $80, and a family of four can save $160 on a single booking. It also makes booking partner award flights easier since you can cancel them without a $20 repercussion.
It will not justify the Summit's $395 annual fee on its own for everyone. But if you frequently use Atmos points for partner airlines, especially when booking for multiple people or for others, it is one of the card’s easiest benefits to value because the savings are measured in actual dollars you otherwise would have paid.
